Annual Banquet
On June 15th, 2010, the Spartanburg SWCD held its Annual Awards
Banquet at the USC-Upstate
Campus Life Center Ball Room. All contest winners were
recognized once again, winning posters
from the Fifth Grade Arbor Day Poster Contest were displayed,
our photography contest winners' works
were also on display, and excerpts from winning essays were
read. We also honored Spartanburg County's
winning Envirothon teams. SJWD Water District was
recognized as our Affiliate Member of the Year due
to their commitment to natural resources conservation and
partnership efforts with the SWCD on projects
such as the bioretention
project at Lyman Lake Lodge. Congratulations to all our
contest winners, winning
Envirothon teams, and a very special thank you to all our
Affiliate Members for supporting the SWCD's
conservation education programs.
Green Steps Schools
Green Steps Schools is an
environmental
education initiative that encourages individual schools in
South Carolina to take annual sustainable steps toward becoming
more environmentally responsible.

Envirothon Winners
The SWCD sponsored 3 Spartanburg County high school teams at the SC
Envirothon Competition.
We are very pleased to announce that first place went to
Spartanburg High School Team A, second
place went to Spartanburg High School Team B, and third went to
Spartanburg Day School. Spartanburg
Team A will be advancing to California to attend the national
Canon Envirothon competition in August

Essay Contest Winners
We
are pleased to announce the winners of our 2010 "We All Live
Downstream" essay contest.
The grand prize winner in Division 1 is Joey Wilson, a student
at the Byrnes Freshman Academy.
Joey is taught by Susan Miles. The grand prize winner in
Division 2 is Caroline Ross, a student at
McCracken Junior High. Caroline is taught by Sheila
Sistare. Honorable mentions went to James
Heidenreich and Morgan Bryans in Division 1 and Muhammad Ghaffar
and Haley Flynn in Division 2.
Congratulations to these talented students!!!

Conservation Youth
Board
We are looking for interested 6th-12th grade students to
participate in our 2009-2010 Conservation
Youth Board. The Conservation Youth Board participates in
numerous service-learning projects,
